1. Two ponies available in Buffalo area
Posted by: "rescue@rochester.rr.com" rescue@rochester.rr.com (rescue @rochester.rr.com)
Thu Mar 29, 2012 12:06 pm (PDT)
We have been asked to help place a brother and sister pair of ponies as quickly as possible. The first is a black and white gelding aged 4 years that stands 10 hands and the second is his older sister aged 5 all black with a few white hairs for a star. She is 11 hands. The gelding is being ridden with no reins or saddle and seems perfectly happy. Thr mare is a stronger and will need some training. They can'r keep them and their land is really soggy with lots of mosquitos which they weren't aware of before getting them six months ago. I do have a few bad photos they sent me is anyone wants to see them.

Subject: 3 Senior "napavine" Mares of Deb's
Hello everyone:
At long last I figured out the pictures......!! Anyway, attached are the photos of the 3 mares who need retirement homes. They are so sweet, precious and lonely; wish I could take them, but I don't have enough land. Deb is going to keep the Arab stallion, Lobo for now. He is 23 years old and they were able to find his papers; unique bloodlines.
Thanks again everyone for helping finds homes for these beauties. They've been together a very long time, so it'll be stressful on the darlings for a while. Below is more information Deb wrote about the horses, and her contact info.
Hi,(from Deb)
The first buckskin is a mare approx. 17 years of age. 15 hands. The 2 horse is a bay mare she is maybe 14 hands 10 years old and lame at a gallop. The last one is a buckskin mare approx. 14 years of age 14.2 hands. They are halter broke. We do not know more then that. They are being fed and are on 10 acres for now. The story on them.. and older gentleman named George came down with Alzheimer's and can no longer stay where he was living with his horses. His sister en-law knows nothing about horses. She contacted me to deal with them and to find them homes. We are doing our best but we are not having any luck placing them.
Here is my cell number 360-520-7255
Deb's email: raddranch@msn.com (raddranch @ msn.com)
Thank you!

Hi Allan:
My name is Helen and I live in Shelton, Wa. I am writing on behalf of a very good friend of mine, Debbie Dwelly. Also, my contact at Pasado's suggested I write your organization.
Here's the deal: I am networking to find a forever home for three "pasture pet" mares. Several weeks ago, their owner, who lived in Napavine, was put into an Alzheimer's facility by his family, and these horses were left behind. Debbie found out about these horses & took them to her barn in Winlock to feed and care for them until a home can be located. Debbie is literally "bursting at the seams" with horses, and desperately needs to re-home these three mares as quickly as possible.
The photo link to these equine on face-book is below:

Debbie wrote:
"The black Arab stallion,Lobo, is staying with Debbie; he's 23 years old. The butternut mare is a quarter horse in her teens. The small bay mare is cute and is lame. The other butternut buckskin mare is young, not sure of age. The owner is in hospital and not coming home so we need to get them a for ever home asap.No training on any of them. They are pets and very herd bound. The Buckskins are 15 and older.
The Bay is maybe 10. They are all halter broke and will lead. Some of these horses haven't been apart for many many years!"
Allen if you can take these horses or help me/us find a sanctuary or forever home, it would be greatly appreciated. Pasado's said you had a large network, and perhaps could give us some leads or networking ideas to place these so deserving horses.
Thanks so very much for your time, and any suggestions or input you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Helen (Ardire) Shelton, WA 360-432-3484

Hi everyone,
I want to add my thanks to Mike's to all of you for your words of support and encouragement. We're just so busy with his treatments - two hour round trips daily plus just about a full day spent at the hospital that we just don't have time to write back to each and every one of you. But, please know that we're very grateful to have you all behind us as we fight this thing. We're taking each day as it comes and will continue to do so for as long as Mike wants to.
Yes, we're trying to place as many horses as possible as soon as possible. I'm attachng a flyer that gives only very basic info on most of the horses we're "pushing". Please feel free to copy and post it anywhere you think people will see it - send it on through your emails, facebook, twitter, etc.
We've had an overwhelming response to our plea for volunteers while the college kids are gone. My daughter, Amy, has volunteered to coordinate that for me as I just don't have time to call everyone. If you can help out, you can reach her at aramirez@fibertech.com (aramirez @ fibertech.com) or by phone at 585-905-1579. I'm also attaching a copy of the schedule we have that takes us through the end of the month. (Those that have "exp" after them know how to handle horses). As you can see, we can use more help. Especially people who know how to handle horses as quite a few of them need riding (footing permitting) and/or just walking around to get them out of the pastures for a little while. They're also not really getting groomed or their hooves cleaned out because most of the
people we have helping either don't know how to do it or are only here for the one hour of feeding time. Mucking is also a need.
Again, thank you all for being there. We couldn't have placed all those horses without your help. Now we need to find homes for those remaining with us.
Chris

I received an update that the ponies are all safe BUT, the 3 horses noted (pictures attached) are still at risk of being put down. These horses were boarders that had been left behind on the property.
All 3 had their feet done today. The two older ones would be great for kids to be around and the Arab gelding is very sweet and gentle, would make a great companion horse.

There are 28 ponies and 3 horses in need of rescue ASAP as the owner has fallen ill and can no longer take care of them. If you can help with even 1 or 2, please see the above contact info. They are being fed but the conditions are bad and all need to be placed quickly. The health dept. has already been out. Most of the ponies hooves are overgrown so wil need some work in that area. Some of the ponies are registered shetlands but the owner doesn't know where the papers are. It sounds like there might be a few minis also.
Horses in Pictures
1st is arab gelding, big boy 15/16 hands. 12/15yrs maybe hip problem. fat thou.
2nd is older bald face bay gelding, was good ride, very sway back, swollen back legs. feet done.
3rd older bald face sorrel paint big pony , was good ride, bad sway back & bad feet.
The 2 bald face might be put down if somebody doesnt take just to give them some love. All 3 are sweet horses.

Horse Name: Carmen
Breed: Thoroughbred
Color: black, Gender: Mare, Age: 12-14, Height: 15.1 H
History:
From Rescue in Wash. Probably was a race horse as she was never bred.
Training:
Very easy to work with, saddles, bridles, bathes, ties, loads, good with farrier, but doesn' t seem to know much in the bridle.
Health:
Excellent health except she has bone chips in her knees, causing some lameness. Vet says can be ridden, especially if buted beforehand, but I wouldn't ride hard or compete with her. I have just led people on her in the round pen so far.
Disposition:
Very gentle and easy to work with. Middle of the herd in pecking order.
Why do you need to find a new home for this horse?
I cannot use her and am only feeding her. Have other riding horses but need spinal fusion and 3 other horses to care for and feed and it's just too much. I may have to get rid of them also. I have had 6 rescue horses and she is the only rescue left.
Other Information:
It is possible, if my doctor says I can ever ride again, to trade her for a smaller rescue horse that is content to just walk along a trail.

http://xwebapp.ustrotting.com/absolutenm/templates/article.aspx?articleid=47128&zoneid=63
These horses were seized last fall in Maryland. There were 8 Henneke 1s in the bunch and most were 3 or less. Together with the the biggest Standardbred breeder in North America Hanover Shoe Farm, (who did not breed these horses and has no connection) , our registry/ my employer, the US Trotting Assn, has put serious money and time in to getting them healthy again. The local Humane Society could not shelter even one of them. They are available to be seen by potential adopters on April 1 and I hope folks will come out and take a look - Hanover PA is south of Harrisburg near the MD line. Two of the mares have raced but otherwise these are largely "from scratch" horses - no lameness - ever - they never raced.
Ellen
Info from the article:
“Those who would like to adopt a horse must apply to or already be approved by the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, New Vocations or Omega Horse Rescue. Prospective adopters are asked to specify their interest in a Hanover horse when applying for approval for first-time adopters or proof of approval for past adopters.
Those approved for adoption by other 501(c)(3) groups are welcome and should contact Ellen Harvey (contact information below) with proof of that approval before March 30.
Those with proof of approval by a group above or prior confirmation with Harvey of another group’s approval before March 30 will be able to select and leave with a horse that day. Others can apply for approval if they see a horse of interest on April 1.
The USTA will provide performance certificates at no charge, so horses can compete in breed restricted pleasure horse events. The full list of horses available for adoption follows. For questions, contact Ellen Harvey, the USTA’s coordinator of Standardbred support programs at ellen.harvey@ustrotting.com (ellen.harvey @ ustrotting.com) or 732.780.3700.

There are 28 ponies and 3 horses at a farm in El Monte, CA. The owner is in the hospital and the horses need to find new homes. The horses have food, but are in desperate need of getting their feet trimmed. Most are Shetland ponies or minis. There may be papers on some of the ponies, but as of right now the owner cannot find them. The ponies do not look like they are halter-broke.
Pictures will be forthcoming as soon as possible.

PLEASE HELP if you can and always CROSS-POST to SAVE A LIFE!
Forwarding... please contact Michele Moon at mmoon75@hotmail.com (mmoon75 @ hotmail.com)
Dear Friends....Please spread the word to your database & FB friends .. We are in the midst of trying to save about 100 horses scheduled to be kicked up by slaughter trucks on Friday. We hope to post photos soon...I just found out.
The horses are in Dallas Georgia. Volunteer Michele Moon lives next door to the pastures where the horses are kept .. She has been trying to adopt out as many as she can on her own.. She is out of time. She needs help. The horses are priced at 45 cents a pound. $450 for a big horse.. $300 for average size. Some of the horses are beautiful.. fat & healthy, saddle trained, wrong place, wrong time. All breeds.. Even a handsome grey thoroughbred. Some are thin.. Some are lame & need care. One is severely emaciated. Michele Moon is working to get his surrender..He needs to go to a qualified rescue. He may not have much longer without intervention. He will need hands on starvation "refeeding therapy" to make it. Michele Moon's email is mmoon75@hotmail.com. She can give directions. I also have her # but she asked me
not to post out as she has little time to field calls but I will give it to serious individuals. She works days & can meet you at the pasture at 5:30 for pick ups & purchases. The owner is the typical profile owner /kill buyer who thinks of horses as livestock & has no qualms about selling them for slaughter. He is fine to sell them to individuals but will not give them away just to get them good homes & save them. Only a purchase will save them. If you think you can help.. Chip in $$ to save a life, foster a horse, buy a horse, transport horses, evaluate horses & have time to go to Dallas this week BEFORE FRIDAY... We need you. We have LITTLE time .. No time for much conversation.. No criticism of the owner.. It is what it is. Email Michele Moon.. She will be grateful,, there are several more volunteers & they have an open group in Facebook THE FORGOTTEN HORSES OF WEST GEORGIA. I know most of us have our hands full., if you cannot help at this
time, just pass this on to your horse loving friends who may be able to lend a hand. Please also Pray for all our beloved horses.. They are in such jeopardy these days.. So easily dumped & discarded for no good reason... They are at our Mercy... And so often there is none, Best to each of you and thank you for
loving horses.

February 29, 2012
Dear Family & Friends,
Hooves & Paws Rescue was contacted a few months ago regarding 90 - 103 starved and neglected horses. After working very hard to get all of the facts regarding this case and our paperwork in order we are ready to go in and remove the first (20) horses Saturday March 3, 2012.
We are looking for as many forever homesas possible for these horses. We have horses from a few days old to 30 years old needing homes. The first horses we will be removing will be the bred mares. These are the most critical to remove ASAP.
Please, if you can help and open your heart and home to just oneof these horses you will help us save a life which may otherwise be lost.
We are pulling Coggins Thursday March 1, 2012 on the first group of horses that we will be removing.
We will be leaving Glenwood, IA Saturday morning March 3, 2012 at 6:00 am and heading south 3 to 3 1/2 hours toward the property where the horses are. We must arrive at the property together as no one will be allowed on the property without us. For the safety of the horses and the Owners rights we are not allowed to share the location with anyone at this time. This is a team effort and we have had great success in the past with the groups we have taken in to help remove both horses and dogs from terrible living conditions. So we are counting on you for your help. We can't do this alone, but together we can make this happen.
If you can't take a horse there are many other ways you can help.
**Donations are needed for gas money to transport the horses, Vet bills and feed cost for these horses. Donations can be sent through our website using PayPal or mailed to the address above. Please mark your donations "Horses".
**Halter & lead ropes of all sizes.
**Extra transport people with stock horse trailers.
**Adult Volunteers are needed to take photos, document horses being loaded and walk the fence lines to make sure all of the horses stay calm while we are loading the first group. If you have horse knowledge or you feel you can help in any way please contact us ASAP. We can be reached at 712-355-3721 or by writing us through Legs1212@aol.com (Legs1212 @ aol.com )
If you can take a horses but do not have a horse trailer we may be able to arrange to bring a horse to you so please let us know if that is an option. We have extra horse trailers for transport.
***Forever Homes are critical***at this point so again, please consider taking one of these horses. There are no adoption fees for these horses. Our goal is just to find them great forever homes that will love them, care for them and give them a chance at a happy life.
This picture was taken right before winter when we first started working on this case. And although the winter has been mild in many areas these horses have suffered due to lack of food on a regular basis. This is one of the younger horses that was on the property. We are very sad to report he was one of the horses that did not make it through the winter while waiting to get the paperwork on these horses. Others have also passed but there are many more we can save!
We hope to hear from you regarding how you can get involved and help us save the lives of these horses.
Thank you & God Bless You
