Hello,
We have 40 Arabs & Pinto Arabs in immediate need of re-homing. The majority are 2-7 years old, although there are a handful of yearlings, older horses and a brand new 2 week old foal. Half are studs/stud colts; the other half are almost all pregnant mares. They are located in the town of Kittitas, which is ~ 5 miles east of
Ellensburg, on the East side of the state (just over Snoqualmie Pass). Never had shots, trims, worming nor training (barring a handful that have had a halter on at least once when they were young). They are being fed on donations from the local community, but I estimate we only have a week of hay left. The environmental conditions are bad; most are living in a junk-strewn pasture, but several are kept in paddocks with mud & feces up to their knees. Most are thin, all are wormy, all have mange. I could go on and on with details, but I think you get the idea.
There is some good news...these horses have never been abused, just neglected. The majority are sound and lacking any major conformation issue; only 3 with old injury issues (barbwire for at least one of the injuries). There is a renter on this property who has loved on them, so they are pretty calm, enjoy the company of people, and want to be pet, especially the younger ones who were born after the renter moved
to the property (3 years ago). It was the renter, by the way, that finally blew the whistle on the owner, when the owner refused to buy more hay for the horses ( they ran out several days ago.) The owner has agreed to release them all, except for a couple senior horses, whom she will let us geld for her.
Today was the first day we worked with them, and we were able to halter & worm 6 in just a few hours, and I was very impressed with their willingness to please.
We desperately need volunteers to adopt or foster these horses. If you can take even one, it would be a huge help. We've been beating at every door in our local community...and have only been able to place 3. There is just not enough money, and too much anti-Arab prejudice in the area.
My email is cordilleranranch@gmail.com (cordilleranranch @ gmail.com), and my phone number is 509-925-1429 , if you can help,
Thanks so much,
Cassie Strickland
