*** WARNING *** This is crucial info for Paint Horse owners in Miama, Florida, but the info is disturbing!
NetPosse has received information from law enforcement and private citizens that PAINT HORSES are being STOLEN in MIAMI, FLORIDA. The pattern shows that paint horses are deliberately being targeted ... but they are not the only stolen horses in the area! However, we need to make paint horse owners aware of this so that they can be PRO ACTIVE in protecting their horses. This is a horrible notice to post, but it must be done ...
From one officer in Miami 3/8/09: ... a horse was stolen on 2/27; the horse was located on 3/5/09. It apparently was walked down the street to private property and slaughtered. The owner bless her heart was on scene when I arrived. The media was also on scene ... I was wondering have you ever encountered Paint horses being used for any rituals or sacrifices. I have noticed the horses that we have located slaughtered are all paints coincidence I don't think so. This is the first horse that was found where it could be identified by the owner.
From a horse owner with a missing paint 3/3/09: We are having a real problem down here in the Redlands with stolen horses. The head and hooves show up in plastic garbage bags on the dirt roads. These thieves don't even make an effort to conceal their horrible deeds. (believe the meat is processed and sold by the pound)
This information is not being shared to scare horse owners ... but if you have a paint and do not know that horse theft still exists and could happen to you or you have not done everything you can to protect your horse from theft, please go to www.netposse.com and find out what is really happening and prevention steps you can take.

With rescues filling to capacity and beyond of abandoned, neglected, found horses and those whose owners can no longer care for them ... we need the public's help more than ever!
It is always possible that rescues (individual and larger ones) will be unknowingly taking in horses that might be listed on NetPosse.
Here are a couple of examples where horses have been returned to rightful owners after winding up at auction and in rescue situations:

There is no way that Debi and I can go to every rescue site and see if they are horses listed on NetPosse and vice versa the rescuers don't have time to peruse the NetPosse site.
Therefore, for those of you have any time to surf the Net, please pick a rescue or two and see if you can match any to those listed on www.netposse.com either under stolen or missing.
The easiest way to do this could be to print off the state listing pages (these have thumbnails and brief descripts) and keep them handy when going to rescue site. If you are looking at a rescue in New York, start with New York and then radiate to surrounding states. Remember, just because the horse was pulled from a New York auction doesn't mean that's where it went missing.
If you think you have found a match, please email me here directly - do not post publicly or contact the owner. We often have horses that look similar but are not the one we are seeking. We prefer to review it before alarming an owner.
By helping us do this you might be reuniting a horse with its owner - I cannot describe to you the warm and fuzzy feeling that will bring you!
Also - you are helping the horses and hopefully aleviating some of the overcrowded rescues so they can better help other horses.
And don't forget ... we are working with rescues who wish to Freeze Brand their horses before they are adopted out.

Update:

THIS STOLEN TRAILER WAS JUST SEEN ON CAMPUS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MONTEVALLO ... IT LEFT CAMPUS AND HEADED WEST ON COUNTY ROAD 10.
HERE IS A DESCRIPTION OF THE TWO TRUCKS INVOLVED!
Truck hauling trailer was NEW BLUE DODGE RAM - 4 door Crew Cab - has ORANGE STRIPES w/an AU white decal in back window with LOUD EXHAUST.
There is a BLOCKER TRUCK BEING USED ... so these two are traveling TOGETHER. Here is the second truck:
BLOCKER TRUCK IS GREEN FORD RANGER XTND CAB, STEPSIDE W/CAMPER. White male with beard and mustache driving. TAG is AL P90B2
TRAILER WAS EMPTY AND WHITE WHEELS ARE NOW ALUMINUM. CAR RAMPS STILL ATTACHED TO INSIDE OF BACK (this does not have a drop down ramp).

On Oct. 23, 2008, a flatbed trailer with 15 bales of horse hay was stolen near Isabella High School.
A witness saw a late model, white, full-size truck pulling the trailer. When stolen, it had a blue tarp, but it was not secure. It is believed the thief stopped and removed the tarp since the witness remembered seeing the trailer w/the hay but no tarp.
This happened around 3 pm just before school let out. Suspect was heading south on CR 29, and probably toward Highway 22 - possibly toward Maplesville or maybe back toward Clanton.
This trailer HAD a LOCK on it. Nothing else was stolen. This trailer was taken from NetPosse Exec. Coordinator, Angela Kirby's back yard. However, the trailer belonged to a friend.

Some time between June 29 and July 5, 2008, this CM Dakota SLL bumper pull trailer was stolen from County Road 50 outside of Safford, AL, in Dallas County.
Inside were 2 Trooper saddles, bridles, breast collars & misc. tack.

NetPosse.com KY & AL trailer theft victims need help!

After the recent trailer thefts in Alabama and Kentucky, it is believed from several reports we are receiving that it is very likely the trailers are being stolen, cut down and sold to scrap yards. This makes it MUCH HARDER to ever locate the trailer, and of course, even if located, the trailer is then useless to the victim.
WE NEED HELP! If you live in Alabama or Kentucky, please go to the webpages below and post flyers at local auctions and SCRAP YARDS!!!!
The owner of the Kentucky trailer, lives out of state and is having trouble finding area scrap yards, and she certainly cannot get to them physically.
The owner of the trailer stolen in Dallas County, Ala., has been doing just this, but nothing so far.
Here are three recently stolen trailers. We appreciate any help even if it is just emailing the victims w/the names and contact info of scrap yards in a radius of the theft locations.

Three dressage saddles taken from padlocked shed at boarding stable. Bea's horse had been at a medical facility and she was not using her tack, so the time of the theft could have occurred during the time span as listed above.

Lock on pasture gate was cut in half, lock on hitch was cut and trailer was taken. There were 3 Western saddles, headstalls, and other miscellaneous tack in the tack compartment. Please post flyers as instructed below and watch for these tack items at local sales and online auction sites!

- If you attend auctions take them with you and post (Just in case he didn't get out on his own or if someone has him and doesn't know where he belongs.)
A stolen trailers and tack can be quickly taken across statelines. The trailer could be scrapped for metal or tack could be sold at pawn shops, online, etc.

This 2006 28-foot Featherlite gooseneck was stolen overnight in Ness County, Kansas.

Trailer theft is on the rise and reports indicate they are being chopped up and sold for scrap.
Be on the lookout for this trailer and notify local scrapyards as well as livestock auctions.

The Stigers had two western saddles stolen from their trailer that was parked at their home in Midway, Kentucky (Woodford County) on Sept. 8, 2008.
Both the Circle Y (pictured) and Billy Cook Saddles had lots of silver/gold accent pieces. Very nice and flashy saddles. The Circle Y has a cut corners and is dark oil with darker seat.

Pony Express Brand, year 2000, no model name marked.
a.. 2 horse straight load with dressing room.

c.. Grayish-champaigne(tan) in color.
d.. will be missing divider or possibly have a mismatched one inserted.
distinctive markings:
- small dent on front, about thigh-high (see photo)
- "do not tailgate" sticker on the back
- squiggle of tone-on-tone clear paint on the front
- At the time of theft, spare tire was bald with thread showing
- At the time of theft, one of the side-back screens had a small rip
- At the time of theft, tread stickers had been peeled off & were missing

Also stolen with trailer was my Longhorn western saddle. Of little retail value but immense sentimental value and with VERY distinctive tooling. The saddle WILL resurface somewhere, so please look at the photos.

Photos attached. This trailer was uninsured (lesson learned) so I'd desperately like to recover it. I know lots of you are members of other lists and forums. Please, please, please cross post! This happened in East TN!

Well, after having a year of hay shortage, we now have to deal with hay
theft. Here in Sevier County, a guy has had over 50 5x5 rolls stolen
and others have noticed that they are missing a few here and there as
well. I have just taken in my newest horse 2 weeks ago despite the hay
prices. So for all of you who are also going through the hay shortage,
please keep your hay within sight or in a safe location.

Stuben and Colorado Roping Saddles Among Tack Stolen from Royse City, TX 

Thieves broke the lock on a tack room of a horse trailer that was parked next to the Michael Peterson's barn and carried away his tack in a wheel barrow while crossing a 17 acre pasture. The top two strands of his barbed wire were cut and the tack was tossed over the top.

Both english and western tack were taken including a Stuben saddle and a Colorado Saddlery Roping saddle.

Hurricane Ike destroyed our feed and tack building so we used our two
horse slant load trailer for temporary storage and feed room until we
could save enough money to rebuild.
This morning when I got to my pasture the gate was wide open and my
trailer with all its contents was gone. We are located on Eldridge
between I-10 and Clay Road which is a very busy four lane road and
the horses could have wandered out there gotten killed and human life
could have been lost as well. We are grateful that this did not
happen!
We currently have 19 horses on the property most of which are rescue
horses coming from abuse and neglect and my husband and I have been
taking care of them out of our own money with little to no help from
others.
Please look out for a dark blue 1993 Calico 2 horse slant load bumper
pull horse trailer. It has heavy rubber mats in it and the tack room
was full with 10 bags of Nutrena Triumph 12/8 horse pellets, 6 bags
of Safe Choice, 5 metal trash cans filled with Alfalfa cubes,
ricebran powder, TNT, Safe Choice and regular horse pellets. There
also was a blue plastic container full of halters and lead ropes,
different colors and sizes, 2 soaker boots, a pair of 00 Easyboot
Epics, 5 saddle blankets.
In the back o the trailer was:
1 metal file cabinet full of medication, supplements, like probios,
wound spray, swat, etc.,wormers, bute, banamine, penicillin, vet
wrap, diapers and duct tape, spray bottles filled with betadine,
hydrogen poroxide, water, etc.. 3 plastic container full with
headstalls, girths, breastplates and other tack, one big container
with brand new horse blankets weatherbeeta sizes 69, 72, 74 and 76. A
homemade wooden shelf with 20 feedbuckets, chainsaw, shovels, post
hole digger, 2 Parelli carrots sticks, 4 parelli rope halters
different sizes and colors.
To make a long story short, we have been cleaned out, it took us
years to accumulate all of this and we now have nothing. I don't even
have buckets to feed my horses with.
So please if you are approached by someone offering you a good deal
on items I listed above, please call the police or contact me
directly.

Remember, horses that are stolen are at high risk of going to slaughter!  Documents can be forged and most horse thieves are looking for a quick buck.  They don't care that the horse belongs to a family that misses them and wants them back!
