YOUR RARE WILD HORSES NEED YOUR HELP.  WE MUST PURCHASE HAY FOR THE NEXT THREE MONTHS.  YOUR HELP IS CRUCIAL.
Our new foals are thriving in our early spring weather!  The view is quite spectacular.  The stallions are strutting with tails held high, neck arched, and snorting as they proudly prance, protecting their mares.
A mild winter, while a boon for the horses, has left water more scarce than usual.  Coupled with droughts elsewhere, like Texas, hay has become harder to come by and much more expensive.
A bale of hay has risen to $55.  One bale of hay will feed one horse for one month.
ISPMB is the only organization in our country that manages entire herds of wild horses.  Our Conservation program was born out of necessity because the BLM has little data on understanding the true nature of wild horses.
Two of ISPMB's horse herds are unique.  In past several decades these two herds have been left alone and literally not managed giving us baseline data of very healthy social behaviors.  Saving these horses has been a miracle as there are no other herds left on public lands that have not been manipulated through removals.  We know that social structures have been altered to the herds' detriment as evidenced by our third group, the Catnip herd.
Weldon Lee and Karen Sussman

With your generous help, we can be assured that "your" horses and our Conservation program will continue to prosper.

TWO SOCKS TURNS ONE YEAR OLD
THIS BRILLIANT FOAL IS UP FOR ADOPTION TO A GOOD HOME
It was just one year ago, that this little foal was born to our Virginia Range mares.   Two Socks was stolen from his mother by another mare who so desperately wanted a foal.  When we returned Two Socks to his mother, she rejected him.
With the snow upwards to more than a foot, Two Socks came in the ranch house to live for the next month.  He became the apple of our eye here.  We were pleased with the volunteers who streamed in to care for this little boy.
Two Socks had the run of the ranch until October when we put him in the care of our old White Sands stallion Geronimo, confining him to a barn and turnout area.  This foal shows great promise at his ability to run and his wise nature.  He does need someone to care for him, someone who will love him like we do and keep him busy.
He is going to be a great horse and he could be yours!  Please call us at 605-964-6866.
Thinking of a year ago when we had so much snow on the ground and temperatures below zero, it  is hard to believe the stark difference now as we enjoy 80 degree weather now.
We thank you for your continuous support!
Sincerely,
Karen Sussman
ISPMB
Please help us continue our work by forwarding this E-mail to a friend.
We are the only organization to manage entire intact herds of wild horses.
Our behavioral studies are critical to the FUTURE of wild horses on public lands.

May 2011:

May (unknown date):

So many times I have heard people say they can't find anyone to freezebrand their horse. It is true, freezebranders are not on every corner and it is hard to find one. If you live in the Charlotte - Monrore, NC area you will have a very rare chance to have your horses freezebranded at a clinic in May. If you are interested go to www.netposse.com and click on the CONTACT US button to email us about the event.
