Do you know someone who has been convicted of animal cruelty? Maybe you know someone who sells horses to the slaughter houses?   Or do you have concerns about conditions you have found when purchasing or adopting a horse?

Let's spread the word so that other horse owners are warned.

Attention Rescuers - From Shirley Puga There are two men going around collecting free/inexpensive horses, saying they will rehab/train them and then find them new homes. ... Instead, they are bringing them to the auction yards in Fallon , NV and the horses are being sold to the kill buyers. They are younger, Native American guys, driving a blue Dodge pickup with NV plates, hauling a red stock trailer with CA plates. Please screen potential adopters carefully. There are lots of folks out there trying to make a buck any way they can.

Attn: Anyone who has had dealings with Amanda Moritz of Bee Co. Texas
Please feel free to forward this to any horse email lists, message
boards, etc. We need to get the word out.
In August 2003, Lone Star Equine Rescue (LSER) (of which I was
President) removed 24 horses from Amanda Moritz in Beeville, Texas.
We also found one dead horse on the property. In court, the judge
awarded all twenty-four horses to LSER. Unfortunately another horse
went down and was euthanized a day after we removed them and another
one died two weeks later. Amanda Moritz, Kathy Moritz, and Nell
Gilmore were charged with animal cruelty. In 2008, Amanda Moritz's
case finally went to court and she was put on probation. When the
horses were removed, she claimed to be running a horse rescue and
breeding facility.
On November 21 of this year, we at Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society
worked with the Bee County Sheriff's office to remove another 10
horses from Amanda Moritz near Beeville, Texas. This time one horse
was in such critical shape that he died a few days after being
removed. In court on December 1, 2008, the judge awarded all
surviving horses to BEHS. At this time, Amanda claims to be running
a training and breeding business, MGM Performance horses, website
http://mgmranch.tripod.com/. She also claims to be running Leap of
Faith Equine Rescue and Sanctuary. The website is at

In both cases, Amanda Moritz purchased horses on payments but
according to the owners of those horses, she never paid for them or
she wrote bad checks to owners of the horses. She also advertised at
various times that she was running an equine rescue organization and
requested donations/contributions.
I have been in contact with two people who sold Amanda Moritz horses,
and we are missing at least one horse that was sold to Amanda. Her
rightful owner would like to find her, and she is offering a reward
for her. The mare is a 1992 bay mare with a small, irregular vertical
star, double diagonal cowlick at top of eye level, right is higher.
Cowlick high at crest of neck on both sides; cowlick in jugular groove
on right side. She also has a lip tattoo. She would have been
obtained from Amanda Moritz sometime after March 2008.
If anyone else sold or gave a horse(s) to Amanda Moritz, MGM
Performance Horses, or Leap of Faith Equine Rescue & Sanctuary of
Beeville or Skidmore, Texas in the past 1-2 years, please contact the

Urgent!! CWC is currently in New Mexico and is looking for a free horse. He claims to be on a ministry ride around the world. He left Texas a few weeks ago on horseback and has already injured 4 horses. His

last horse had to be euthanized near Las Cruces after he rode him into a cattle guard. He is believed to have left Alamagordo on a bus bound for Albuquerqueon Monday. He is looking for a 5th horse.
Please let anyone you know in New Mexico to keep an eye out for him. Especially anyone that has horses. This guy is mentally unstable (I can explain further in private messages) and needs to be stopped from getting another horse. If anyone wants more information they can pm me and I will be happy to fill them in. Please share this message with anyone you know so that the message can canvas the southwest. When he leaves New Mexico he will be headed for San Diego.

This horse was being driven from New Holland to OKLAHOMA by a man with three guns in a cart, but no feed for the horse. The harness rubbed 10-15 patches of hide off and he was whipping the horse to try to get it to go. Local citizens called in complaints and the horse was seized and the guy driving the horse is in jail. He has a prior conviction for neglect of two draft horses. Hats off to Officer Abigail Avery and the Adams Co SPCA.

We [a rescue] were alerted today by the owner of a horse rescue pertaining to 3 Puerto

Rican men with a very large horse trailer in search of horses.

Along with searching ads on the internet and in newspapers, their search now

includes approaching rescues in an effort to obtain horses.

This morning they approached a rescue in located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Thankfully for the horses, they are under the protective=2

0wing of a caring rescue

and the attempted effort by the men was squashed and an alert was issued

pertaining to the incident.

Please note that these men are not looking for horses for any good purpose.

Their intentions are strictly barbaric and for profitable purposes.

To turn over your horse to them is a sure death sentence for that horse.

Please do not turn your horse over to anyone unless you have done your very best

to check out the person first, no matter how "charming" or “nice” they appear to

be.

Nobody who is on the up and up will hesitate signing a contract stating that

your horse will not wind up in slaughter conditions, on the auction block or

used for any other negative purpose. Nobody who is on the up and up will mind

you checking on the conditions that your horse will be living in or calling any

of their references.

Please be aware that attempts such as this are not only taking place in Indiana,

but elsewhere as well.

In an effort to protect as many horses as possible, forwarding this bulletin is

greatly appreciated.

There is a well know scammer that is now trolling the horse groups
in Yahoo and has even been advertising their own horse group
recently, called

This person often uses aliases and will even post under her
husband's name, "John." Her name is Angela Ledcke. She also goes
by Angie Schubart, Christa Schubart, Daniel, Saddie Backenbush, and
many, many other IDs.

This person will con and fraud with many tactics, such as acting

Now she appears to be rescue horses and offering to give them a
loving home - then selling them off.

She stormed through the work-at-home-mom's online community as a
self-proclaimed candle maker and played so many games with the
members that a site was put up in order for the onoine community to
keep up with her scams.

convinced individuals to ally with her and defend her - only to ruin

Stan and Jason signed a proof for refund to be returned by Feb . 12 2007. It is now March 14 2007 .. no money and all phone numbers are changed web page is gone and a lot of nothing. There is a local horse dealer named (Email me at missys.hope@gmail.com for the name of the individual) who promises a great home to horses and then turns around and ships them to slaughter for cash... It turns out Adele, Firefly and Dawn were all intercepted on their way to slaughter via this person who had promised their previous owner they would be going to a good home. We will probably take a beating for naming names, but we know our facts. People need to be aware of who they give their horses away to...

A meat trader who is under investigation over allegations of animal cruelty at his farm is still dealing in horses.
More than 100 emaciated horses and donkeys were discovered at Jamie Gray's farm last month.
Animal experts who found another 32 dead animals and had to destroy three more described the scene as an "equine Belsen".
But only weeks later, the Daily Mail has discovered that the 44-year-old trader has brought a new batch of horses on to his farm in Hyde Heath, Buckinghamshire, keeping them hidden in a barn away from roads and public footpaths.
However, a member of the public spotted the horses apparently being mistreated by Gray, and the RSPCA and numerous police officers raided the farm last Friday.
Several horses were taken away to animal sanctuaries.
Gray buys unwanted animals for as little as £1 before transporting them abroad for slaughter.
After last month's raid, he appeared at Aylesbury Magistrates Court on February 4 charged with criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.
However he has not been charged with any animal welfare offences and is still under investigation.
